There’s a good chance many of you will stop reading as soon as I mention the word, “hockey.”
And I sort of understand since, let’s face it, it’s not the most mainstream game in the hobby. In fact, not only does it fall in line behind basketball, baseball and football — you could argue it may trail F1 and UFC recently.
And to all of these facts I say one thing — you’re missing out.
I, like many of you, was not a fan of the sport, or of the hockey hobby, growing up.
I have a better chance of winning the lottery than I do of actually being able to skate and play a game of hockey on my own.
And, at the core, sports cards collecting is born from the common trait that many of us were fans of the game long before we were fans of the hobby.
So, reasonable to conclude that since I didn’t play a lick of ice hockey as a kid (despite growing up in the Detroit area), I would have zero interest in the sport or the hobby.
And for a good long while, you were right.

Unless you’ve been avoiding news from the sports world, you’ve already had a decent amount of time to process Fernando Tatis’s 80-game suspension for a positive steroid test. His once bright future is now riddled with question marks. Collectors are left to wonder what will become of Tatis’s card values. Darren Rovell raised a lot of eyebrows by quickly asserting that Tatis’s steroid usage could cost the overall Tatis card market to lose over $100,000,000 in value. While that figure looks absurd at first, it becomes more reasonable upon examination. I’m not going to try to break down that figure fully, but I think it is worthwhile to check out the immediate future, the near future, and the long-term prospects for Tatis.

Grading News- Pop culture cards need graded too. Post Malone took it upon himself to grade a Magic: The Gathering card featuring himself. Submitting a card of yourself to be graded has to be pretty high on the list of baller moves that are still nerdy. The card only graded an 8 at PSA likely because, as the singer admits, he used it in games first.
Vintage- Further evidence that vintage is awesome can be found thanks to a Robert Edward Auction which closed out recently to the tune of $14 Million in total, including a $306,000 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle SGC 5. For more about the auction click here.
Pop Culture News- Leaf Pop Century Metal has hit the market and is selling well. The highlight has to be the Harrison Ford autos, many of which are fetching over $1000. There is something for everyone as there are tons of deals to be had on many pop culture favorites, though with many stellar autos in the $20 to $40 range.
NFT News- Footballer James Rodriguez made a splash when he recently launched his own NFT line. The 1/1 exclusive version sold for a stunning $21000 or 11.3 ETH to be precise.
