The NFL Draft is always exciting for football fans.
The thrill that comes from watching these elite prospects land on teams all over the league is something football lovers can’t get enough of each year.
In fact, the draft itself has become a spectacle in its own right, with elaborate production values, primetime television coverage of every round, and the league coming to town and throwing what has essentially become a three-day gridiron party.
In the hobby, however, this is only a small component of the excitement.Â
For most trading card fans, zeroing in on that small group of elite rookies is a thrill like no other. Finding that one diamond in the rough, that under-the-radar signal-caller, pass catcher, or back is an art unto itself.Â
A few weeks back I dangled the name Christian Watson out there for those who may be looking for a receiver with some impact potential, particularly given where he landed after the draft — Green Bay.
This week, we’re delving deeper into the sea of sleepers, and focusing on a player who may not only pan out after going undrafted but someone who I believe has the potential to be a standout.

We are smack dab in the middle of a great NBA Playoffs so it’s time to check in to see how the postseason is affecting card prices. Last week, the always-excellent John McTaggart remarked on the volatility of the NBA Playoff market and hinted at some interesting patterns in card values as relates to playoff success. Basically, win and a player’s card might see a bump or lose and see his cards plummet. Â
This is a long-respected pattern, but in true By the Numbers fashion, I couldn’t be satisfied by conventional wisdom. I wanted to know what types of increases to expect and how much of a decrease one might see. It was time to put this conventional wisdom to the test.
