It’s officially our one-year anniversary edition and we’ve let it all hang out to celebrate the occasion. John Dudley tries to unlock the mystery of the NBA’s next superstar, I talk about myself, (truthfully, it’s about my upcoming show), and a collection of PSA 9 Mantles could be yours! So, after one year of Nonsense Newsletters, you know the routine — sit back, grab your favorite beverage and enjoy this week’s edition!

The LeBron era in the hobby is winding down. While there are milestones and the possibility of playing with his son left, James is very much in the process of riding off into the sunset. The next two superstars waiting to take the mantle of the hobby’s biggest star are also firmly on the downhill side of their careers.
Some might look at this and worry that we are heading into one of the daunting times where the NBA lacks clear star power. The last major glut happened around Jordan’s first retirement and some collectors are nervous the NBA pantry is bare.
Fear not, though. The NBA is stacked with talent. I’d argue the league is deeper now than it has been in quite some time. This means the hobby is primed for one of the stars not named LeBron to take off. Rather than doing a traditional Top 10 list, I’ve broken the players down into different tiers and ranked them within their tiers based on how likely I think it is they see become the biggest name in the NBA card world in the future.

I sat down this morning to pen another insightful piece about my new/renewed obsession with Magic The Gathering.Â
I was going to wax poetic about some of my pickups for both my playing deck and the collection. I’ve been dabbling in grading some of these cards for the collection as well. Once I get these back from PSA I will share all of that with each of you.Â
Having said all that, I instead decided to write about something a little less exciting to the vast majority of you — me.Â
Now, all two of my fans (thanks, mom and my wife) might get geeked out about this, and I’m kinda excited about it myself. Within the next few weeks, I’m expanding my media reach to not only include these Nonsense Newsletter masterpieces, but also a legitly produced video show.Â
Quick Hits
Grading News- The great price war continues with PSA offering a sale price as low as $15 a card. CSG is the current leader for the cheapest price with bulk pricing at $12 a card. Collectors are following the sales as we’ve seen big swings in grading volume based on who has the best special.
Vintage- For all you high-end Mickey Mantle collectors out there, a collection of PSA 9 Mantle’s is headed for the auction block beginning Nov. 12 at Memory Lane. Included in this collection is 15 early Mantle cards, 14 or which are PSA 9 grades. For more information, click here.
Pop Culture News- It should be time to see some new zerocool offerings soon, hopefully. They’ve teased Dune, Stranger Things, and Clerks II as properties that they would start releasing at the end of 2022 and early 2023. Stranger Things is sure to be sought after, but it will be interesting to see how properties that aren’t merchandising juggernauts perform.
Hobby News- Topps needs to start putting a QR code linking to this on their packs. Beckett offers their always excellent and needed SP, SSP, and SSSP variation guide for Topps Update. Super useful.
