The holidays are nearly upon us, but the hustle and bustle isn’t going to slow SCN one bit! This week John Dudley’s going to stir up some disappointment within the hobby by looking at some of the NBA’s slow starters. Meanwhile, I’ll run down all the things I’m thankful for within the hobby. Plus, we all get some motivation to go to every estate and garage sale possible… and Card Shop Live’s loyal program launched! So, kick up your feet and enjoy this week’s edition of SCN!

With the holiday season nearly upon us, I can’t help but to look back and reflect on what I am thankful for within the hobby.
Now, please keep in mind, I do not want to turn this column into a cliched piece on all the gushy and mushy sentiments that can wash over all of us at this time of year.
That said, there are plenty of things I, and we all, for that matter, should be thankful and grateful for within this hobby we all love and enjoy.
For starters, I’m thank fun for the community, even those dealers who are grumpy and Grinch-like, and seem to have little moral compass when it come to dealing with customers or the general public as a whole.

Slow starts in the NBA are frustrating, but a bad beginning can also lead to some of the best buying opportunities of the year. The NBA market is fickle with even established legends like LeBron James and Kevin Durant not being immune to large drops based on a few games. The good news is that the see-saw goes back up meaning you can snag some great players on the cheap.
My absolute favorite buying season for any sport is the first few weeks of the season. I love picking up guys that have a few games for 25-50% off. I’m going to make this column a regular feature for each sport as I think the bargains are worth highlighting. For baseball, I only featured platers I thought would improve. I think it would be useful for basketball to divide players into players I’m looking to buy, hold, or sell.

Quick Hits
NFT- It’s alphabet soup time. Topps is releasing an NFT line of GPK (Garbage Pail Kids for the uninitiated) cards poking fun of NFTs. This send-up means that NFTs have finally really made it. You aren’t truly part of the culture until you’ve been lampooned in GPK format. More info here. You might still be able to snag some as they launched yesterday.
Vintage- I’m filing this under the “Why Doesn’t This Kinda Stuff Ever Happen To Me,” category. An estate sale in Pittsburgh yielded a mind-blowing find, hundreds of rare, uncut sheets of 1941 Play Ball baseball cards, and these are, of course, headed for auction. Robert Edward Auctions will begin this auction Friday, Nov. 18. It’s an amazing and unbelievable story. Read more about it here.
Pop Culture- MTG releases its newest set today. The Brothers War features extremely tough-to-pull serial-numbered cards which are a newer addition to MTG. The set is cool for a lot of MTG reasons, but the reason it is featured here is its inclusion of Transformer cards. That’s right, you can get your very own MTG Optimus Prime. More info about the Transformers MTG cards is available here.
Grading News- If you won the recent PowerBall drawing, might I suggest the Mile High Card Company’s most recent auction. If not, check it out anyways to see the stunning 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth PSA 8. It’s a gorgeous card and the hits don’t stop there with complete runs of some of the most coveted vintage sets ever.
