Nonsense Newsletter No. 167: Stocks, The National League Central Division and much more!
In this week’s edition of the Nonsense Newsletter, John Dudley breaks down the National League’s Central Division. I am made a believer in the parallels between the market and the hobby. And Quick Hits get the job done once again, as usual. So, let’s make a deal and kick back and enjoy this week’s wonderful edition of the Nonsense Newsletter.

Welcome back to the ongoing MLB Hobby Preview. This week, it is the NL Central’s turn. The NL Central is a fascinating division from a hobby standpoint, mostly because of the variety of talent. It has my favorite team to talk about from a hobby standpoint and a traditionally important team that I think is surprisingly the least hobby-relevant in the game this year. Let’s see which is which.

I had a discussion recently with a gentleman at a local card show about the stock market and trading cards.
He insisted, since he was a stockbroker by trade, that he had a better grasp on the trading card market than most, and that the same rules apply to both markets.
I am not, by trade, a stockbroker.
My grandma once bought me a few mutual fund shares when I graduated from high school, which I subsequently cashed in during college to likely pay for pizza and a date with my girlfriend.
Nonetheless, I am no Wall Street wizard, to put it mildly.
Quick Hits
Vintage- Who didn’t have a poster of their favorite ball player up on the wall when they were young? Not many. So, this article on some baseball posters from 1972 should evoke some nostalgic vibes from all of us old enough to remember posters.
Hobby News- Topps has a couple of products celebrating the Tokyo Series to start the 2025 season. They’ve got a Tokyo Series blaster box that features Series 1 cards with some uniquely themed inserts and parallels. The Takashi Murakami parallels /10 will be the chase but the Tokyo Nights inserts are gorgeous and sure to be on many collectors’ pc wantlists. The other product is a set of Takashi Murakami cards that comes with one parallel per set and features a shot at rare autos. Those are being sold by Complex and might still be available as of me writing this. The blaster boxes are sold out and available on the secondary market.
