It’s way too early to panic about MLB players that are struggling early, or is it? That’s the dilemma that collectors face every year. Sometimes, early struggles are a sign of a lasting drop in production, but other times, they are the result of bad luck and the streaky nature of baseball.
It’s hard to tell the difference between those two possibilities, but that’s the job facing collectors looking to squirrel away only the finest hitters in their collections. Let’s look at five and figure out if we should be panicking yet.

A few weeks ago my colleague, John Dudley, wrote an amazing article on Topps Heritage baseball. Check it out by clicking here. You’ll be glad you did.
Today though, I’m here to say that I recently bought a box of Topps Heritage and sat down to rip it open with my 8-year old nephew.
Now, he’s a huge baseball fan, and an Orioles fan like his Uncle Johnny, so when we sit down to do something along these lines we’re always rooting to pull a few birds from these packs and add them to his collection.
There are many things I enjoy about Heritage each year, including the nostalgia it gives me opening each pack, knowing that in some cases I remember opening these actual packs, before they were called heritage anything.
Quick Hits
Hobby News- Topps Tribute is out and is proving popular amongst the breakers. While box prices are high, break spots aren’t too bad, and Topps has done a great job adding some amazing chase cards to provide truly amazing cards to chase. I’m enamored with the Buster Posey card with a very large chunk of game-used World Series baseball signed. It’s still a lottery-type product, but the prizes have greatly improved.
Vintage- At last, an article talking about the things that really matter in the hobby! And, one that hits close to home considering my all-time favorite hockey player is Lanny McDonald, who sported perhaps the greatest mustache on the globe! Check out this article and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
Hobby News- 2024 Heritage High Numbers has been a hit, and now it is time for 2025 Heritage. The product has a less popular design (although I like it), a less heralded rookie class, fewer autos per case than HHN, and fewer Chrome cards. While HHN spiked to $200 a box briefly, it’s likely that 2025 Heritage will follow the path of other recent Heritage products and stay at or decrease a bit from initial prices. Still, it’s a nice-looking product and not priced too high relative to other products.
