In this week’s tantalizing edition of SCN Newsletter, John Dudley goes deep-dive on PSA and SGC (complete with charts and graphs! It’s an awesome read). I start complaining about the ultra-modern hobby to the point where I lose what little is left of my mind, and Mike and Jesse make a commercial. Oh, and Nick Swisher, former Yankee and CBS analyst, is going to be live on Card Shop Live tonight ripping packs to raise money for Evey Kid Sports! Join us to raise money for this great organization! So, as the leaves turn, the air chills and the seasons change, one thing stays the same — another awesome edition of SCN Newsletter awaits you!

It use to be fun, and I suppose it still could be in some contorted way or altered sense of reality where money is never-ending and common sense has absolutely no redeeming value.
However, after decades in the hobby, I’ve finally arrived at the point where I’ve had enough.
I’ve had enough of ultra-modern 1st Bowman Chrome baseball prospects who never even sniff the Big Leagues fetching hundreds of dollars only to plummet within weeks of release.
I’ve had enough of current Prism basketball rookies commanding multiples more than RCs of some of the game’s greatest all-time talents.
I’ve had enough of a football market that values literally three players from each year, then watches them cliff-dive back to reality over the course of the next year.

Last week, I took a look at the pricing of 9s and 9.5s. In doing so, I came up with a chart of multipliers by grade and company. It’s included below for reference. I found myself referring to it this week when deciding where to send cards off to and found it surprisingly helpful.

Quick Hits
Grading News- The grading companies are normally on top of things, but they have sure been late to the Funko Pop party. That’s all changing as PSA will now grade the cute little vinyl figures. Out of all the figures, these are the easiest to make a decent holder for, and they will look great on display. I do wonder if it is too little too late, or if this can foster some growth in the Funko market. This looks like a market that is organic though, unlike the perplexing and shady VHS-graded market so I’m expecting good things from the PSA and Funko combo.
Vintage- Admittedly, I haven’t been in the market for any T206 cards, but that doesn’t mean any of you out there aren’t interested in them. That said, these classics are one of the most counterfeited cards around. Check out this article on how to spot a fake by clicking here.
Pop Culture News- Topps announced Topps T206 Star Wars Wave 2. The print run is determined by the number of orders. I’m eagerly awaiting the first series figures as it was one of the more heavily advertised Topps products in recent memory with mixed reactions. The second wave includes autos with a Jar Jar Binks that is unironically now at the top of my want list.
NFT News- In case you missed it, Sorare is doing some awesome promos right now with the guys. Be sure to check out what might be the coolest use for NFTs yet and a darn fun fantasy game. Prizes for this are awesome and include Playoff MLB tickets.
