It’s time to start thinking about the NFL. The draft is coming up and we’ve just had a blockbuster trade. I’ll definitely wax poetic about the hobby future of the 2023 draftees, but for now, I am interested in seeing if I can figure out which quarterbacks will have breakout seasons.
Each year one or more QBs outperform expectations and their card prices increase. More than any other player in the hobby, a few good games can cause seriously massive gains. That means it pays to be in early on the right guys. Here are six I think have a shot next year.

If you paid attention to my last installment in the Nonsense Newsletter, then you are very aware that I have shifted the focus of my business from general sports cards to pretty much hockey exclusively.
It’s a shift that continues to bring me happiness and joy, and one that has me more excited about the hobby than I’ve been in a very long time — which is saying a lot since I have loved this hobby since I was a kid.
Earlier this week, I was reminded why this excitement and enthusiasm and optimism is not false hope or delusion.
On Tuesday evening, my little revamped company went live for the first time on the Card Shop Live App.
We've got an app-wide bounty on Bowman Color!
The 1st 5 people to pull autos that are purple (#/199) or higher and the 1st 5 people to pull autos that are red (#/5) or lower will each win $50 CSL Cash!
The bounty is live now until May 4th.

Quick Hits
Hobby News- 2023 Bowman is a hit, but Topps is still having trouble convincing collectors to splurge on the 1st Edition version of the product. While they lowered the price from the shocking levels of 2023 Topps Series 1 First Edition, collectors are still baking at the $279.99 price tag. The big problem most have with it is the lack of chrome cards and the scarcity of autos. Both of those are the key to the Bowman experience and without them, very few are paying the premium for the tiny 1st Edition logo. It looks bad when 1st Edition products sit unsold on Topps’ website. First Edition is a fixable product line though and hopefully after another poor reception, Topps will make some adjustments rather than just scrapping it.
Vintage- If you remember, a few weeks back we talked about a 1968 Topps baseball set where 572 of the 598 cards in the set were PSA 10s, remember? Well, the auction has closed on this one-of-a-kind set and the sale price tag is mind-boggling — $1.4 million! Read more about this set, and a few others that recently sold at auction by following this link here.
Grading News- A PSA 10 Red Topps Sapphire Update Julio Rodriguez sold for $21,200 at Goldin this week. That’s a hefty price, but far lower than many expected, including the buyer who, as reported in the Blowout Forums, had turned down multiple offers of over $50,000 for the raw card. The high-end market is a fast-moving rollercoaster and not for the faint of heart. It’s not often that a $20,000+ card can be considered a bargain, but a few weeks of J.Rod hitting well could push this back up quickly.
Show News- The National has announced its lineup of guests and it is a doozy. What stands out to me is that baseball and football are well-represented, but basketball looks to have gotten short shrift. Regardless, it is quite the collection of HOF players and fan favorites. Check out the list here.
