EDITOR’S NOTE: We are going NBA heavy with some football sprinkled in today. Last week, I had promised an article about Rally. I will do that but I am having issues with the recording file for the interview. I suspect I’ll be able to figure this out but it’s taking forever so if any of you are familiar with MacOS and/or Quicktime, please reach out so I can share the awesome interview that should accompany that article. Also, people have been saying that they’re having trouble finding our discord do I am going to post a huge discord logo right below this so when you click it, viola! CLICK THE LOGO BELOW…..
NBA 2020 Rookie Watch
I’ve been watching a bunch of League Pass over the last ten days and here’s what I think about what I’ve seen from a card perspective. As we make way for 2021 product and rookie class, it sometimes makes sense to clear out the old to free up some capital.
2020 Class
Lamelo Ball-The upside here is undeniable. I’m not moved by Instagram culture, but after watching this guy on the court for 5 games, to put it in Uncle Junior parlance, he has all the makings of a varsity athlete. I’m buying once 2021 product comes out and people gravitate towards the next shiny objects.
Anthony Edwards- The things this guy can do from an athletic standpoint boggles the mind. No, I’m not comparing him to MJ but his athleticism vs the competition can be viewed as MJ86-esque. I’m still a buyer.
James Wiseman- I’m still a buyer on him especially because he’s down. HE’s coming back to a championship caliber team with a great mix of generational superstars, veterans, and young players. If you’re playing for that playoff pop, Wiseman is still a good buy for me.
Patrick Williams- I don’t know. The guy hasn’t shown much at all. Unlike Okoro, who just screams 24 minute rotation guy to me, I think there is still bust risk here.
Isaac Okoro- Mobley is amazing. Okoro looks like a solid rotation guy to me. Nothing more, nothing less. I’m not going all in on this guy and I’m going to trim my holdings.
Cole Anthony-I’ve watched a bunch of Magic games. This guy is a leader and a spark plug on a young team. He’s aggressive and he bounces back from mistakes quickly. This guy is a player and Im a buyer.
Isaiah Stewart- He’s a big, but he could be a special one. He’s tough as nails and does everything you want from a young player. I’m not saying he can shut down Giannis in 2021, 22, or 23 but after that, I can see him having a shot at being able to do that…if anyone ever can that is.
Desmond Bane- When a guy becomes a solid 19 ppg scorer at the beginning of year 2, you have to take him seriously. This is Mike Gio’s buy recommendation and I think we should all pile on here.
A few other guys I may be looking to nibble on:
Saddiq Bey
Tyrese Maxey
Jordan Nwora
Devin Vassell
Tyrese Halliburton (atrocious start)
Deni Advija (I know he hasn’t done much but I believe he is culturally relevant to a subset of fans and if he can show us something this year, that gives you downside protection)
